Jacques Engelbrecht
Director/ Facilitator/ Legal Intervention Specialist
I am ethically driven and passionate about service delivery to those who turn to me for professional advice and intervention in legal, social and family matters relating to addiction whichfalls under the Substance Abuse Act.
I firstly specialise in obtaining interdicts. Interdicts in South Africa are rooted in both common law and statute law. Interdicts are important in the South African legal system, serving as powerful tools to protect rights, enforce obligations, and prevent harm. Interdicts are a powerful remedy that can be granted by the courts where someone needs protection of their rights against the threat of or the actual unlawful interference.
I secondly specialise in attaining section 33 court orders. Involuntary rehab commitment, often known as Section 33, is a South African statute which allows a person to seek a court order compelling someone to be committed and treated involuntarily for an alcohol or substance use disorder. Addiction is a sickness that can spiral out of control, and many addicts will either die or succumb to a life of crime. There is no proper method to explain the consequence, and a Section 33 might mean the difference between life and death.
I focus on Co-Morbid Addiction and Mental Disorders caused by Substance Abuse and as a team leader, I head a team which includes an Addiction Counsellor, a Social Worker, a Psychologist and refers patients to Specialist Psychiatrists and Medical Practitioners in severe cases.
My hands on approach and vast understanding of the intricacies experienced in the field of rehabilitation practice brings a wealth of knowledge to help clients in determining the best possible remedial treatment to sufferers of substance abuse.
